THE CATHEDRAL
Settled on a roman temple and later a mosque, its origins are found in XIII th century. Valencia’s Cathedral does not belong to a unique style, but several historic styles coexist in its architecture: for example, the main door “Puerta de los Hierros” is baroque, the door “Puerta de los Apostoles” is gothic and the door “Puerta del Palau” is roman. The Miguelete is the bell tower of the Cathedral, and is strongly tagged as gothic style. With a 50,85 meters height, it has some spiral stairs going up to the terrace, where you’ll be able to sightsee the city, the countryside and the sea. Going up to the terrace is highly recommended.
EL CARMEN
El Carmen is the oldest neighborhood of the city. Paved streets, medieval buildings, millennial palaces will make your walk in this area a real trip into history. Nowadays El Carmen is also a place with lots of cafes terraces, charming restaurants, and a huge offer of nice places for the visitant. A walk within El Carmen is a must for any foreign visitor staying in Valencia.
TOWERS OF QUART AND TOWERS OF SERRANO
On the edge of El Carmen district you will find the 2 resting doors of the wall that used to delimit de city in middle age. Those gates are great examples of gothic architecture that is so present in the city of Valencia.
LA LONJA DE LA SEDA "SILK EXCHANGE"
Declared World Heritage Monument by Unesco. La Lonja is a jewel of the civic gothic architecture, some experts considering it the best example of this style in Europe. Its imposing façade reminds a medieval castle. It is an emblematic building representative of Valencia’s wealth during the golden century (XV century). It was a neuralgic center of trade exchanges at that time, especially for textile industry, and a real temple of commerce that attracted merchants from all over Europe.
CENTRAL MARKET
Valencia, like many Spanish cities, has a multitude of food markets where you will find fresh Mediterranean products. The huge Central Market of Valencia , built in 1928, is located inside an emblematic building of pre-modernist architecture, made of metal and glass. Central Market is the favorite market of valencian people as well as one of the most attractive point of interest for tourists.
